Mitsudomoe in Maru Mon Pendant
Description
Mitsudomoe in Maru Mon PendantApril 2023 Fine silver, glass enamel A friend came to me because he and his cousin wanted to make a pendant with their family's mon (family crest) for his aunt. Their mon is a mitsudomoe design (three tomoe, or comma like shapes, in a radial pattern) surrounded by a maru (circle). The mitsudomoe is a symbol of Hachiman, the god of war and archery, and is also representative of swirling water.

After the last of the wedding festivities were over
I wanted to make something that represented both of them and their personalities
while the rest of the piece is lit from all sides with diffuse light
Milliseconds later I smacked myself in the head when I reminded myself that a Möbius strip only has one side
This verse is my wife calling me to her

Even God is presented in birth order
or "long life")
Variations I & II
Their color and clarity made me want to dive into them and swim around
Variation I was done using the twin techniques of chasing and repoussé
