his songs convey an eclectic blend of genres leaping from the many musical lives he has lived from following his evangelical Gospel-singing mother on tour around the country as a child to rapping in Atlanta

The album waves through progressions in jazz

The record marks his first release for the label Anti and is also the most detailed exploration of his upbringing in musical form

The result is a neosoul funk monster

as he adds a soulful house swing and uplifting Kerri-keys that enhances the gospel spirit of the original and aims it squarely at the club
