"The Valley of Lost Souls" Signed PrintThe Valley of Lost Souls a place where disembodied humans wander aimlessly, wondering if this valley of darkness and loneliness is their final destination and if their former lives were their only lives. I created this piece using dozens of thin glazes and large amounts of underlying modeling paste to create the depth of color and visceral texture.

This piece is representative of the eternal fascination with castles

and when half dry

and is set in an autumnal forest

The three trees mark the boundary that now marks her life

which forces you to sift through clues hidden in your behavior

Is there really beauty in everything

with slightly more burnt umber to give the piece a warmer feel

A woman sits in solitude

I used the Venetian technique

and used toothpicks and scumbling with brushes and clay-shaping tools to achieve the final effect

I applied a coat of acrylics for the basic values and then painted layers of oil glazes over it
